THE MOTIVATION FOR THIS PROJECT DATES BACK MANY YEARS, EVER SINCE I WAS INTRODUCED BY CHANCE TO DIVERTIMENTO CURITIBOCA, WHEN I SETTLED IN CURITIBA, COMING FROM RIO DE JANEIRO, IN 1992, I HAD THE PLEASURE OF PLAYING WITH THE PARANÁ SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA CONDUCTED BY ALCEO BOCCHINO HIMSELF AND HAVING ONE OF MY DEAREST TEACHERS, CLARINETIST JOSÉ BOTELHO, AS A SOLOIST IN THIS INCREDIBLE WORK, WHICH BRINGS TOGETHER SEVERAL BRAZILIAN RHYTHMS, ESPECIALLY CHORINHO. THIS RHYTHM IS PRESENT IN MY TRAJECTORY TODAY, LIKE SO MANY OTHER STYLES THAT ARE PART OF MY CAREER. AFTER YEARS OF PERFORMING TOGETHER ON STAGE, WE BECAME GREAT FRIENDS AND BOCCHINO, AFTER A REVIEW, LEFT THE ORIGINALS IN MY HANDS, WITH THE CERTAINTY AND CONFIDENCE THAT I WOULD STUDY IT AND PREPARE MYSELF TO PLAY THIS VERY SPECIAL PIECE. AND, TO RECIPROCATE AND PAY HOMAGE TO THE CONDUCTOR, I COMPOSED A SHORT TRIO, USING SAUDADE IN THE FIRST MOVEMENT, A MELODY BY MASTER BOCCHINO FROM THE SONG “QUE COISA”. TO COMPLETE THIS TRIBUTE, I BROUGHT TOGETHER TWO WORKS BY A VERY TALENTED YOUNG COMPOSER, AS WELL AS A GREAT FRIEND, SANTIAGO BEIS. TWO QUINTETS FOR CLARINET AND STRINGS. THE RESULT OF THESE TWO VERY SPECIAL FRIENDSHIPS SO IMPORTANT TO MY CAREER IS THE RECORDING OF MY FIRST CHAMBER MUSIC ALBUM.

Born in Curitiba (Paraná) on November 30, 1918, Alceo Ariosto Bocchino is one of the most important names in Brazilian music. He was one of the founders of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Rádio MEC, the current UFF Orchestra, with which he made important recordings. Bocchino belongs to the select group of musicians with multiple talents. He was, at the same time, a true piano prodigy (having made his first public performances at festivals and events at the age of five), one of the most important and respected Brazilian composers of the 20th century, as well as an arranger, teacher and, mainly, orchestra conductor.

As a conductor, he performed in the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, the Municipal Theater Symphonic Orchestra, conducted concerts with some overseas orchestras, such as the Bilbao Symphony, in Spain, and the Burgás Philharmonic, in Bulgaria, as well as being the founder and head conductor of the Paraná Symphonic Orchestra and the aforementioned National Symphony Orchestra of Rádio MEC. The work “Divertimento Curitiboca” is presented as Brahms with Brazilian rhythms, and was composed in 1993 for chamber orchestra, recorded in this album in a version for piano and clarinet.
